MIA For Awhile…

Watch out, or your face will FREEZE that way

Wow… seems that some people HAVE been reading~!  Aw, this is my little guy towards the end of 2006.  Oh wow, that made him a few months shy of two years old.

Sooo, thought I’d do something that I’ve never done before.  I’m letting you know that I will not be anywhere near the internet for the next few days, into next week.  My antenna will be up and hopefully I will return here with a post or two.

I’ve come across some amazing blogs lately and I will miss reading them, but looking forward to catching up when I get back. No major vacation or anything.  We’ll just be in and out, visiting with family, like my dad who is only in Pennsylvania but might as well be in the Tasmanian desert, under a rock.  We tried to get them connected, if even with just an email gadget to send/receive pics and keep in touch with email.  Two months ago my dad FINALLY bought a laptop, but returned it TWO days later because he got frustrated getting the cable connection hooked up… Whaaaaaat?  ugh.  He really should’ve called someone who could walk him through this.  Now he’ll never get one, grrrrrrr!

Tomorrow we will be visiting some of the in-laws.  They are really nice people and we so rarely see each other.  Just found out that one of the grandchildren has gotten bitten by the knitting bug.  Knitting, crochet… all the same.  It’s all fibery goodness. If you remember, I said that I needed to drastically cull my stash.  This has proved quite the opportunity.  So much I feel that I cannot part with, but because it was going to family, and a young person at that.  Anything to nurture the craft.  It was so easy to pick out yarn, the more expensive stuff.  There is still a lot, I realized today, that I simply could not part with and I told myself, “I don’t know what she likes. I don’t know what colors she likes. I don’t know what weight yarn she likes to work with,” and well, you get the picture.  I could go on and on rationalizing why not to put more in the box.  I can’t wait to talk to this girl who I have watched grow up, but have never really spoken to.  Her family has SHEEP on their farm, the dad is a master beekeeper…Biology~! Now THIS is the stuff I love to talk about.  My brain will be tickled pink and I will be loving it. Yeah, I’m even bringing some knitting books.  I just wish I knew remembered this sooner.  I only had a couple hours to ransack my stash, but I have tons of patterns I could give her. Will just have to wait for another time.  If I knew what tools she needs, I could also have put some of those aside.  Yeah.  Again, I am putting myself into the hero role… You know, like I’m the only one who can make this happen.  You know, it’s ALREADY happening because she’s already knitting and maybe doing crochet. I hate my ego sometimes.  Well, the times that it’s so obvious that I can’t help but see it.

One thing I want to see if I can do while away, but doubt it without the internet, is attaching photo credits to pics that are not mine.  I never thought much of using someone else’s pics, but I realize that it’s just not right.  I figured it was okay because the internet is so open, and I never claimed them for my own; but I was thinking today about how I never post my poetry for just this specific reason and it just hit me that I was doing the same thing and how wrong it really is to post without at least linking to the original site.  Monumental task since this blog has been around since 2005.  So, I apologize to everyone out there who has had their content stolen and credit misplaced to a stranger.  I’m going to try to right the situation and will probably replace some pics with my own.

Have a great rest of the weekend and into the week.  Meet ya on the other side…

Daily Prompt~

Daily Prompt:  Opposite Day

If you normally write non-fiction, post a photo. If you normally post images, write fiction. If you normally write fiction, write a poem. If you normally write poetry, draw a picture.

Soo,  I’m not sure what I write.  I can write a pretty mean fiction, but I’ve not done so in quite a long time… Same goes for poetry.  Okay, so this daily prompt presents a good opportunity to post some pictures of the wire wrapped pendants I have made.  It will always bother me that I took pictures without first polishing off my fingerprints from the stones.

Oh, as a last minute addition, I’ve included a painted tee shirt I made for my son to wear to school on Halloween.  This was kind of last minute as he didn’t want to participate the whole time, leading up to the day, then of COURSE the night before, he changes his mind…. SuperMOM to the rescue and he LOVED it~!  Such is the rewards for being a mom.

While I’ll not be drawing the pictures, I have created what is inside the pictures:

Playing With Nails

Wow.  I can’t believe that the rush, rush post I put up the other day just to “try out” something on the sidebar when you first publish a post garnered more views than the post I had worked on for a few hours.  “Just Playing” is a beautiful poem and is well worth, no worth more than the views it got.

Today, I’m just going to post pictures of my latest nail design.  Nothing intricate (yet) but I want to keep it out there so that I can continue to build upon it.

These colors are:  1. Base color: Sinful Colors, Sugar Sugar #839.  A pearlized red with just a hint of sparkle inside.  Gives complete coverage in 1 coat which makes it a great base coat when you need your base to be pretty much dried before going on to layering.  2. Confetti, Dance Party Pink #017, 3. Sinful Colors, Tokyo Pearl #112,  4. NK, Mystical #021 which is the glitter overcoat on the ring fingers for accent.  All nails get a top coat of whatever clear polish I have on hand at the time.

I am really liking this design and what I can do with it.   I’d like to place accent a few different things (at different times) on the outside edge of the nail, on top of the white pearl stripe.  For Christmas I’d put three red rhinestones and paint green holly leaves, fanning outward.  Another option is to place a single large silver rhinestone in the same place, or a pink bow, or just about anything you’d like.

Not the best job because it was rushed, but I’m pleased with it.  I can really see that my nails grew crooked which was probably due to my constantly biting at my fingers.  I have screwed up nail beds and my nails are actually growing slanted on my second and fourth fingers.

UPDATE 1/21/12:  I just noticed that the thin stripe is tinted pinkish, while the true color is a white pearl.  I’m pretty sure that I got this effect because I put on the clear top coat a little sooner than I normally would because it was getting late.  I wasn’t going for this, but it compliments the design nicely without standing out.

I rushed last night to finish this design because I’ll be busy tonight and we were scheduled to visit my brother’s family.  It was to be our “Sedita Christmas”.  Well, as it turns out, today we are all sneezing our heads off and the weather is threatening to put a damper on our plans.  The right is something close to 2.5 hours long to get there and the weatherman says we’d be driving in snow all day long and when we come back.  The first real snow of the season and it has to be TOMORROW.  While I’m glad and look forward to it, we are missing my brother’s family.  Well, I can console myself thinking that it’s for the best and that our being under the weather didn’t have to be the primary reason for this cancellation AND hopefully next weekend will bring us together at last.  LOVE YOU~!
